Forscene is now being used as an editing tool on the eighth season of The Doctors – an American syndicated talk show produced by Phil McGraw and distributed by CBS Television Distribution.
A spin-off of the popular Dr. Phil, The Doctors debuted in 2008 and airs daily in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Australia, Ireland, Sweden and Finland. The hour-long program focusses on health and medical issues with a team of medical professionals (and sometimes celebrity guests/speakers) discussing a range of various health-related topics and answering questions viewers are too embarrassed to ask their own doctors.
How Forscene helps The Doctors edit more efficiently
The Doctors were looking for a solution that allowed them to view and start editing footage on iOS and Windows platforms, that would maintain time code continuity, provide good image quality, was easy to use and could make A-rolls that could easily be imported into Avid. Forscene was chosen based on these capabilities – the fact that the platform is cloud-based, and therefore able to provide all this functionality from anywhere with an internet connection, was an added bonus.
A Forscene server has been installed at The Doctors to automatically ingest and create proxy versions of the shoot footage as soon as it’s uploaded to their central storage. The proxies uploaded to Forscene are immediately available in The Doctors’ production account. With minimal training, field producers have been able to quickly start working with this media in Forscene – viewing rushes on-the-go from the Forscene app on a tablet and editing interview sequences from a desktop at the office or home. When they’re ready to move into Avid they simply export an AAF and auto-conform against the original media stored centrally.
“Forscene is intuitive to learn, easy to master and provides the editorial staff an efficient way to import A-rolls from producers,” said Tom Baird, director of engineering for Dr. Phil Shows. “It’s integrated well with our existing infrastructure and has assisted in accelerating our workflow.”
Forscene’s reseller strategy in action
This sale has been facilitated by Forscene’s North-American resellers, Technicalogy, with hardware provided by Key Code Media. Both organizations have existing relationships with Paramount and have worked together to support the sale and installation.
“This is a perfect example of Forscene’s reseller strategy in action,” said Jason Cowan, business development director at Forbidden. “Technicalogy signed Paramount Pictures by capitalizing on their industry experience, local contact base and product knowledge and KeyCode Media has an extensive sales team and are already trusted suppliers to Paramount. By working together they are able to ensure that the client receives excellent service and ongoing support.”
Forscene will be exhibiting at NAB Show 2016 at booth SL5305.
