The Guardian quotes a recent report: “The amount spent by advertisers on the web [in the UK] has grown by 19% year on year to £196.7m in 2002 … Despite the increase, the internet still only takes 1.4% of the total amount spent on advertising every year”. CyberAtlas notes that the Internet advertising market as a whole has had “the first consecutive quarterly increase since the second quarter of 2000”. The FT highlighted a report showing online advertising was last year “the fastest growing advertising medium”, outstripping cinema for the first time. Europemedia.net completes the picture with: “the bulk of online advertising is made up of banner ads”.
