Blackbird UX/UI improvements

This latest release includes further improvements to the editor user experience.

A significant set of updates are targeted for the March release with our new ingest queue and scheduler including a new floating Blackbird player for preview of streams and files, a fully paginated ingest queue with customisable columns and powerful search capabilities as well as a new schedule and recurring event management feature with conflict management.

The latest upgrade to the Blackbird platform is due to be released on 6th February 2024. This update will be made available during a maintenance window of 11:00-16:00 GMT (6:00-11:00 EST) on the day.

Blackbird Editor improvements

Disabled track wrapping

Where multiple audio tracks are used on source media and users drag/drop to a timeline, Blackbird has typically wrapped tracks around if the number of tracks did not match the space in the timeline – this feature has now been simplified to avoid wrapping and renumbering tracks. This is to aid with ease of operation. Users still have access to the powerful track patching capabilities of the editor where needed for any workflows.

Floating logging window

The floating logging window – which was already available to users from the files window, when they right-click on a clip and select log entries – has now been enhanced to support dynamic logging data with the refresh button for display of updated data from other users or other automated processes such as captioning data on live content.

Security and Compliance work

Numerous updates to backend and Edge infrastructure for latest python3 and Angular for long term supportability.
