Blackbird Editor UX/UI improvements

This latest release includes a major upgrade to the editor timeline behaviour to ease the process of adoption from those coming from other NLEs.

January’s release includes new fade controls, new colour palette and revised trim handle positioning. In addition to these core usability and look/feel improvements, we are also enabling access to a greater level of control within the video effects in the platform with effects sliders and advanced keyframing of these as well as access to a full RGB colour adjustment effect.

Upcoming work scheduled for the February release will include further user focussed interface updates.

The latest upgrade to the Blackbird platform is due to be released 9th January 2024. It will be made available during a maintenance window of 11:00-16:00 GMT (6:00-11:00 EST) on the day.

Editor UI/UX

New dark skin (optional per site)

Effects sliders

The Blackbird editor now has effects sliders including the ability to keyframe. These sliders are now available in this update for mosaic, blur, crop/opacity, highlight and other effects per-control point where supported.

Fade handles in the timeline

New video/audio fade handles have been added to clips in the Blackbird editor to aid with feature discovery of the fade feature as well as improving easy of spotting clips that join back to back through clip handles shown in white and joining when clips are together in a timeline.

Trimming improvements

Trim zones on clips have been expanded to ease the edit assembly of a sequence without the need to be zooming in and out of the timeline to be able to grab and move clips. This is to ease and speed up operation of the editor.

Video/visual monitoring options

A new video monitoring track menu including safe area toggles and captions/subtitles toggles is also now available to allow users to quickly toggle their preferred options.

Security and Compliance work

Numerous updates to backend and Edge infrastructure for latest python3 and Angular for long term supportability.
