Blackbird’s latest update delivers richer colors, enhanced video quality, and expanded HDR support, unlocking seamless editing for high-quality content from mobile devices and beyond.
The latest upgrade to the Blackbird platform is due to be released on 25th February 2025 and will be made available during a maintenance window of 11:00-16:00 GMT (6:00-11:00 EST) on the day.
Advanced colourspace management
Blackbird has updated its core technology to improve colour reproduction within the Blackbird proxy codec as well as improve quality of encoding. In addition to this for typical HD content using BT709 colourspaces, we have also added support for BT2020 SDR and HDR source media – specifically for the Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) content. Further updates to add support for Perceptual Quantiser (PQ) are coming in the next release. Output formats are not altered at this stage but this unlocks a vast amount of HDR footage from mobile devices.
