Like any software, the Forscene interface includes a variety of buttons. To find out what any of the buttons are, simply place your mouse over the button and wait a few seconds. As you can see, the button’s name will then be displayed.

But sometimes, knowing the button’s name isn’t enough you need to know how to use the tool that the button gives you access to. If you keep your mouse in place after the button name has come up, a tooltip will be displayed, telling you how to use this tool.

But we don’t only use buttons to do things in Forscene and that’s why we’ve taken this a step further. Almost every part of the interface includes names and tooltips from your play and record windows, to the media in your timeline and the panels.

As well as hovering over a button, you can also use the expand tool at the top of the panels to see the names of these buttons in this section. Just click the arrows again to hide these names.

Drag and drop can be used to organise your Forscene workspace.

You can relocate your panels and move and resize windows too. You can also drag and drop your timeline, record window or play window to create a personalised workspace layout.

Media can be dragged from one area and dropped into another. Organise your file window into folders or drag from your file window into the play or record window – it works with individual files and entire folders.

Only want a piece of the clip? Mark your in and out points in the play window and drag your selection onto your timeline or into the record window.

Time codes can be dragged and dropped too.Drag the time code from your record window into the play window to match frame.

And for loggers that missed the shot? Drag time codes from your logging window into the play window or from the play window into the logging window.

Drag and drop makes editing your sequence easy. You can move your shots around within a sequence or move individual tracks.

Drag your edit points to shorten or extend shots; drag your transitions to change their duration; and drag the top corner of a clip to add a fade.

When you’re done, drag and drop into your files window to save. Whether it’s a sequence, a clip or a colour correction.

And to delete? Drag it to the recycle bin and drop it there.

Finally, share your work by dragging your sequence or selection onto the publishing option of your choice.

Right clicking on the shortcuts button opens the keyboard shortcuts window, which lists the preset keyboard shortcuts and allows you to customise and set your own.

The window will always open with the last used set of keyboard shortcuts. The existing shortcuts are categorised into usage areas including universal, text, editing, logging actions, etc.

To create your own shortcut, simply click in the box at the bottom of one of these sections and type in the shortcut keys that you would like to set an action for. You will then be presented with a list of actions to choose from. Click your choice to set the shortcut and it will appear in the shortcuts list.

If you would like to set macro shortcuts – so that one shortcut results in a series of actions being performed – follow the exact same procedure as for normal shortcuts, but right click to keep adding actions in the order you’d like them performed and left click on the final action to close. And your macro shortcut will appear in the list.

You can have different keyboard shortcuts for use on different projects. To change to another set, open the keyboard shortcuts menu and choose from the list.

Here, you will also be presented with some options, including creating new keysets and removing or duplicating these. ‘Derive from keyset’ means that you can duplicate a keyset, then add new keyboard shortcuts to it. And ‘select keyset to rebase onto current keyset’ means you can merge a new keyset with an already defined keyset.

You can rename keysets by clicking in the title box and they will be saved in the keyboard shortcuts menu for future use.

Forscene has been designed to provide all the tools you need from a simple interface. This meant doing away with unnecessary buttons that clutter up your screen.

So, instead of having a button to zoom into your timeline and another to zoom out, you left click to zoom in and right click to zoom out.

Similarly, left click to undo, right click to redo. Left click to add a gap in your timeline, right click to close the gap and so on.

We’ve also simplified usability by avoiding long lists of drop down menus. Right click to access settings for files, publishing options, to set keyboard shortcuts and to access track settings in your timeline.

Forscene’s interface is simple and clear, with added functionality just a right click away!

Open the chat window by clicking the chat button on the left-hand side of the interface. Your chat window has three tabs.

One for Forscene’s user support, another for your account – to chat to your co-workers or others logged in – and finally the public chat which is open to everyone using Forbidden’s editing applications.

If you click on support you will be presented with a private chat window. At the bottom of this window is a text box. To post a message, type your question or comment into the text box and press return. Your message will then appear in the chat window.

If you’ve made a mistake you can drag the message back into the text box and edit it before reposting, or even drag and drop it in the recycle bin to delete it completely.

Once you have posted your message to support you can close chat and continue working. A notification will appear on the chat button when a reply to your post or a new message is received.
